TCS sexual harassment case: Maha Police arrest AIMIM corporator

Nasik: AIMIM corporator Matin Patel has been taken into custody by Maharashtra Police after a court issued a non-bailable warrant over his failure to appear in response to two summonses linked to the sexual harassment case involving TCS employees, The Indian Express reported.

Patel was named in the chargesheet for allegedly sheltering Nida Khan, the principal accused, despite knowing that her anticipatory bail plea had been rejected. Police alleged that technical analysis and confidential information indicated that Patel had helped Khan evade arrest while investigators were searching for her in April and May, according to The Indian Express.

Khan was arrested on May 7 from a bungalow owned by Patel in Naregaon, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, more than 40 days after she was named in a case involving alleged offences against religious sentiments.

The wider case centres on a 23-year-old TCS employee who alleged that Khan pressured her to adopt Islamic religious practices. Khan and two others, Danish Sheikh and Tausif Attar, have also been accused of making derogatory remarks about Hindu deities. Police allege Sheikh sexually assaulted the complainant under the pretext of marriage, while Attar allegedly molested her and threatened to expose an alleged workplace relationship.

Between March 26 and April 3, Nashik Police registered nine cases against eight TCS employees involving allegations against nine people. All were arrested, while TCS suspended the accused and began an internal probe.

Patel’s properties were later subjected to demolition of allegedly unauthorised structures by the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar civic body, a move that reignited controversy over punitive demolitions despite the Supreme Court ruling against such practices.
