Chennai: In protest to the Centre's call on State secretaries, bypassing State Ministers to discuss the implementation of the New Education Policy, the Stalin government boycotted an online meeting of the Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal.

"You cannot say that we boycotted. We did not attend only to register our protest against the Union government calling for a meeting with the state secretaries when there are elected representatives," said Tamil Nadu's newly sworn-in school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi during a press conference.

The Minister also highlighted that many issues in the NEP 2020 including the three language policy, public examinations for the standards III, V and VIII, needs to be discussed further pointing out that the DMK has opposed many aspects of the NEP 2020.

"Ours is a multi-cultural and multi-linguistic society…we can't accept the imposition of Hindi and Sanskrit. Implementing the three language policy will not benefit our rural students. DMK stands by its policies," the minister added.
