Swiggy Instamart launches 10-minute LPG cylinder delivery

Bengaluru: Quick commerce platform Swiggy Instamart on Wednesday announced a partnership with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to launch on-demand LPG cylinder delivery, claiming it is the first such service offered by a quick commerce platform in India.
The service has been rolled out in its first phase in Bengaluru, enabling customers to order cooking gas cylinders through the Instamart app and receive them within minutes.
Unlike conventional LPG bookings, customers do not need an existing domestic LPG connection to place an order.
The launch also marks the commercial debut of HP Navya, HPCL's new 10-kg composite LPG cylinder featuring a translucent body that allows users to monitor the remaining gas level. A standard 5-kg metal cylinder will also be available through the platform.
"Instamart has expanded its consumption use cases well beyond groceries. With HPCL, we are extending that convenience to an essential household service, bringing LPG onto Instamart while adhering to safety and reliability benchmarks," Instamart Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Amitesh Jha said in a press release.
Given the safety-sensitive nature of LPG transportation, the companies said deliveries will be handled through HPCL's existing network of authorised distributors rather than Instamart's own delivery fleet.
Orders placed on the Instamart app will be routed to nearby HPCL distributors, and deliveries will be carried out exclusively by certified distributor personnel.
The companies said first-time orders will be treated as new LPG connections and will require identity verification and proof-of-delivery documentation.
Subsequent orders will follow a cylinder exchange model, under which customers will hand over the empty cylinder at the time of delivery and receive a refilled one in return.
