Supreme Court denies bail to Mohammad Ibrahim Kaskar
text_fieldsThe Supreme Court has refused to grant bail to gangster Dawood Ibrahim's nephew Mohammad Ibrahim Kaskar in a case for issuing threats to a builder. A bench comprising Justices M.R. Shah and B.V. Nagarathna said they see no reason to enlarge the applicant on bail at this stage.
The case was registered in 2019 and Kaskar's bail plea was dismissed by the Bombay High Court in December 2021. The Bombay High Court had denied bail noting Kaskar's involvement in the offence. The top court today noted that the charges have not been framed in the matter.
The top court said the applicant can once again approach the court for bail after six months. "If the investigation has been completed and the charge sheet is filed against all accused, the trial court is directed to frame charges within a period of six months''.
The builder filed the complaint saying his business partner owed him Rs 15 lakh. But in June 2019, he received an international call, allegedly made on the behalf of gangster Shakeel, asking him not to insist on the payment.
Kaskar was arrested in July 2019 and the police filed a charge sheet under MCOCA in October 2019. The Bombay High Court had said while rejecting bail that the prima facie involvement of Kaskar is punishable with over 10 years.
