Stalin considers extending backward class reservation to Muslim converts

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has expressed willingness to consider extending reservation benefits to Backward Class, Most Backward Class, and denotified communities who have embraced Islam.
This announcement came during a session in the Assembly on Thursday, where M.H. Jawaharullah, leader of the MMK party, raised the issue.
Stalin assured Jawaharullah that the state government would carefully assess the request and consult legal experts to determine the feasibility of extending reservations to these communities.
He emphasized the government's commitment to safeguarding the interests of various social groups, echoing the measures taken to improve the social, economic, and educational status of Adi Dravidar, Backward Class, Most Backward Class, and denotified communities.
The request to extend reservation to converted communities stemmed from concerns raised by Jawaharullah regarding the denial of reservation benefits to individuals who had converted to Islam from these marginalized groups.
The Chief Minister's response indicates a proactive approach by the DMK government to address the issue and ensure equitable opportunities for all marginalised sections of society.
