Spanish woman gang-raped in Jharkhand gets 10 Lakh as compensation
text_fieldsDumka (Jharkhand): Jharkhand Police has handed a compensation of ₹ 10 lakhs to the Spanish woman who was gang-raped in Dumka on Friday.
She was assaulted in Hansdiha police station limits while en route to Nepal from West Bengal with her husband, NDTV reported.
‘We did a fast investigation and from the side of district administration, we are providing all the help to them (rape survivor and husband). Under the victim compensation scheme, we have given them ₹ 10 lakh. We will try for a speedy trial and conviction of the accused,’ Anjaneyulu Dodde, Deputy Commissioner was quoted as saying.
The incident reportedly happened when the woman and her husband, who were on a bike tour, halted for night in a tent at a deserted area in Kurmahat village.
Three of the seven people involved in the case have been arrested and a local court on Sunday remanded them to the judicial custody, according to the report citing the police.
Meanwhile, the rape survivor’s husband thanked the police for the very "fast investigation".
Jharkhand Minister Banna Gupta stressed the state government’s commitment to taking strict action against the accused.
