Some parties trying to widen Hindu-Muslim enmity: Maha-Minister on vehicle vandalisation
text_fieldsMumbai: Over an incident of vandalising vehicles in Mumbai's Mankhurd region, the Maharashtra home minister Dilip Walse Patil called upon people to not fall to rumours for the sake of maintaining communal harmony.
About Twenty-five vehicles, including cars, two-wheelers and autos, were damaged in a violent attack unleashed by unknown miscreants on Sunday night. The incident prompted the Mumbai police to deploy heavy security to ensure no untoward incidents should follow.
Minister Patil has also urged people to cooperate with the police to maintain law and order.
An investigation into the vehicle attack has already been initiated, so that the culprits and their motives would be brought out soon, said the police.
CCTV footage of the incident, which is going viral on social media, shows a mob vandalising the vehicles with rods and swords.
Minister said that some political parties were into creating communal unrest in the state by giving provocative speeches that in turn could increase enmity between Hindus and Muslims.
This comes amid a row that erupted after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray made a statement at a rally in Mumbai last week, seeking a ban on loudspeakers playing the Azaan in Mosques.
