Solidarity with Palestine: PM Modi reiterates support for two-state solution
text_fieldsObserving the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on November 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed India’s concern over the humanitarian and security situation, advocating for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and an end to acts of terrorism.
India's commitment to Palestine's development was underscored, with the Prime Minister highlighting ongoing efforts to support people-centric projects based on Palestinian needs. In a letter, he reiterated India’s long-standing support for a negotiated two-state solution that would lead to the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state coexisting peacefully with Israel.
Since the escalation of hostilities in October 2023, India has condemned terrorism, referencing attacks by Hamas on Israel, while maintaining its stance on the necessity of a two-state solution for lasting peace. India has consistently provided humanitarian assistance to Palestine and supported its cause on international platforms, including the United Nations.
The Palestinian embassy in New Delhi welcomed the Prime Minister’s message, appreciating India’s unwavering support for the establishment of a viable Palestinian state and its commitment to humanitarian aid. The statement also endorsed India’s call for a ceasefire to address the deteriorating situation in Gaza.
The Prime Minister’s letter follows a bilateral meeting in September with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, where concerns over the unfolding Gaza crisis were discussed. India reaffirmed its historical and diplomatic ties with Palestine, reiterating its role as a steadfast partner in development and peace-building efforts.
