New Delhi: Regarding the Shraddha Walkar murder case, the Delhi police informed that it had received an audio clip that proves accused Aftab Poonawala fought with her. He can be heard in the clip, NDTV reported.

Police are positive that the clip is a piece of prime evidence to establish the motive behind Shraddha’s murder.

The 26-year-old woman Shraddha was allegedly strangled, cut into 35 pieces, stored in a fridge and dumped into woods in the dark over 18 days. The couple were living together, moved from Mumbai to Delhi, and she was murdered just four days after they came to the capital. Her body parts were dumped in Delhi’s Mehrauli forest.

On Monday, the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) forensic team will collect Aftab’s voice samples, as per a Delhi court order. After that, they will match it with the voice in the newly acquired audio clip.

The court extended the accused’s judicial custody for 14 days on Friday. He, who has been there since November 26, appeared before the court through video conferencing.

Though Aftab’s lawyers argued against the voice sampling test, the court said that the consent of an accused is only needed for tests such as narco analysis, brain mapping and polygraph.

Metropolitan Magistrate Vijayshree Rathore said, “True, a fair trial is the right of an accused, but it is also true that fair investigation is also required in the larger public interest as the offence cannot escape, and crime cannot go unnoticed merely because the accused is not ready to aid in the investigation. Thus, the application moved by IO (investigation officer) seeking permission for voice sampling test of accused is allowed,” news agency PTI quoted.
