Shraddha murder: CCTV visuals suspected to be Aftab with body parts
text_fieldsNew Delhi: A CCTV footage of Aftab Poonawala is out featuring him walking down a street next to his home carrying a bag during the wee hours of October 18. It is suspected that the bag contained Shraddha's body parts, NDTV reported.
Aftab Poonawala is the accused in the murder case of his live-in partner, Shraddha Walker, who was strangulated, chopped into pieces and dumped off in Delhi's Mehrauli forest.
Now the police are verifying the footage, the first one obtained regarding the case. The footage shows a man wearing a backpack and carrying a carbon package in his arms. Since the footage is grainy, his face is not clear, but police claim it was Aftab.
Earlier on Saturday, police recovered sharp cutting tools from Aftab's flat, which the probe team suspects to be used to chop the dead body. Police claimed that Aftab revealed the story of the horrifying murder after strong interrogation, and he himself assisted them in recovering the evidence from this flat Chhatarpur.
Further, the police recovered a heavy black polythene bag from Aftab's workplace a day ago.
Meanwhile, a former colleague of Shraddha, Karan, who worked with her in Mumbai, told PTI that after Shraddha was subjected to severe physical abuse, she was about to approach the police, but Aftab's parents intervened and sorted the issue between them. His parents assured her then that he would move out of her house, Karan said.
Shraddha first shared with Karan the torture she faced from Aftab in November 2020. He met her last in March 2021.
Aftab allegedly strangulated Shraddha four days after they moved to Delhi. An argument broke out between them over expenses and infidelity. He chopped her body into 35 pieces, stored them in a fridge and dumped them off in nearby woods over the next 18 days in the wee hours of the night, police said.
Aftab will be subjected to narco analysis in five days, NDTV reported.
