Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut faces sedition charges for anti-Modi article
text_fieldsMumbai: Shiv Sena Member of Parliament Sanjay Raut is facing charges of sedition and other offences after the Yavatmal police registered a First Information Report (FIR) over an objectionable article he wrote in the party's mouthpiece, 'Saamana,' targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The FIR was filed based on a complaint lodged by Nitin Bhutada, the BJP's Yavatmal district coordinator. Bhutada claims that Raut penned the contentious article on December 10, targeting PM Modi.
The case, registered at Umarkhed police station, lists charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). These include Section 124 (A) for sedition, Section 153 (A) for promoting enmity between different groups, and Section 505 (2) for making statements that create or promote enmity, hatred, or ill-will between classes.
A senior official confirmed the registration of the case, stating, "We have registered the case as per the complaint and will conduct a probe into it."
The legal proceedings are expected to unfold as the police delve into the allegations made against Sanjay Raut.
This development adds a new layer to the ongoing political dynamics, with reactions and responses from both Shiv Sena and BJP anticipated in the coming days.
