Shashi Tharoor qualified to contest in Congress' presidential election: K Sudhakaran
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: Kerala Congress chief K Sudhakaran Lok Sabha member Shashi Tharoor is qualified to contest in the party's presidential election.
He added that there is no need to blame Tharoor because Congress is a democratic party and its members have the right to contest for the top post.
Speaking to the media, he said: "What is there to wonder about? Is he not an eligible candidate?" He added that if he wishes to contest, he can do that and the party will accept it. "If I get the votes, I will win."
Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday responded to speculations about his possible candidature and said he will only make a decision after the election notification came out. He also termed the discussions as "only speculation". The notification will be issued on September 22. The filing for nomination will begin on September 24 and continue till September 30.
The Thiruvananthapuram MP said an election to the top Congress post is good for the party. The Congress Working Committee on Sunday decided to hold the election for the party's full-time president on October 17.
