New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal on Saturday came down on outgoing Delhi chief minister Atishi for celebrating her victory in the assembly poll for the Kalkaji seat, terming it a ‘shameless display’.

Atishi is the lone top leader of the AAP to emerge victories defeating BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri in the polls that saw BJP returning to power in the national capital after more than two decades.

After the announcement of results yesterday, Atishi was seen jubilantly dancing alongside her party workers nevertheless top leaders including Arvind Kejriwal failed.

Swati Maliwal, who is at loggerheads with the AAP leadership, shared a video of Atishi dancing and wrote on X ‘What kind of shameless display is this? The party lost, all the big leaders lost and Atishi Marlena is celebrating like this’.

The former chief minister has won the Kalkaji seat for the second straight time by a margin of 3,521 votes, gaining 52,154 votes where her rival Bidhuri polled 48,633 votes with Congress' Alka Lamba securing the third place with 4,392 votes.

AAP senior leaders including Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Satyendar Jain have lost, with the party winning only 22 seats in the 70-member assembly.

Returning to power with a gusto, the BJP has ended its three-decade long wait where the Congress failed to take even a seat for the third time.

Swati Maliwal, previously a close associate of AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, has fallen out with the leadership and became one of the party’s strong vocal critic.

Blaming the party’s defeat on Kejriwal, Swati Maliwal called him 'arrogant'.

Swati Maliwal in May 2024 accused Bibhav Kumar, a close aide of Kejriwal, of assaulting her at the Chief Minister's official residence when she visited there to discuss pressing issues.
