Shah Rukh Khan death threat: Mumbai police arrest lawyer in Chhattisgarh
text_fieldsMumbai: Mohammad Faizan Khan, a lawyer, was arrested in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, on Tuesday for allegedly issuing a death threat to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and demanding a ransom of Rs 50 lakh.
Khan reportedly made the threatening call to the actor, prompting a case to be filed against him under sections 308(4) extortion involving threats of death or serious injury, and 351(3)(4) criminal intimidation of the Indian Penal Code (BNS). The threat call was traced back to a mobile phone registered in his name.
Initially, Faizan Khan claimed that his phone had been stolen, and that it was used to make the threatening call. He even filed a police complaint regarding the stolen phone on November 2. However, his arrest followed his failure to appear before the Mumbai Police.
The death threat was issued to Shah Rukh Khan following the success of his films 'Pathaan' and 'Jawan'. As a result, the actor's security was upgraded to a Y+ security detail, with six armed personnel providing round-the-clock protection.
In a related incident, Bollywood actor Salman Khan has also been receiving threats. Last week, a 32-year-old man was arrested in Karnataka for issuing a death threat to the actor, allegedly linked to the gang of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
