New Delhi: A Delhi court denied Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) legislator K Kavitha interim bail on Monday, which served as a major setback to the leader. The court denied her bail in a case in which she was accused of paying Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Rs 100 crore in return for liquor licences in Delhi, The Indian Express (TIE) reported.

Kavitha, a member of the Telangana Legislative Council and daughter of former state chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, was taken into Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody on March 15.

In another news story, the Delhi High Court is going to hear a plea demanding the removal of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from his chair. The petition demands the arrest of Kejriwal to show by what authority, qualification, and title he continues to be the CM of the national capital. The petition wanted Kejriwal to be removed from office with or without the retrospective effect after an inquiry. He was arrested by the central agency last month in connection with the Delhi excise policy case and has been remanded in judicial custody till April 15.

Meanwhile, AAP leader Atishi is expected to respond to the Election Commission’s (EC) notice, issued to her over her claims that BJP approached her to join their party, on Monday. The EC notice, dated April 6, ordered her to substantiate her claims and respond with a “para-wise-response” before noon on April 8, TIE reported.

In the notice, EC cited the election Model Code of Conduct (MCC) provisions against unverified allegations. It also mentioned its March 1 advisory to parties to refrain from making false statements during the election campaign.
