According to police reports, former Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) district president Kanav Sharma, the son of prominent BJP leader Chander Mohan Sharma and a lawyer, got into a dispute over parking his scooter outside a power station in the New Plot area.
Two persons inside the power station apparently protested to him parking there, and when the debate heated up, one of them pulled out a revolver and fired two shots, one of which struck Kanav in the stomach, Indian Express reported.
Vivek Shekhar Sharma, Superintendent of Police North Jammu, alleged that one of the suspects in the case is a power department employee.
Meanwhile, the BJP youth leader was brought to the Government Medical College Hospital, where he is said to be in stable condition.
"He’s currently absconding. Multiple police teams are looking for him," he said, adding that the suspect's scooter, which was parked in the same location, had been impounded.
