SC rejects plea seeking cow to be made a national animal
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Rejecting a plea seeking its direction to declare cow a national animal, the Supreme Court asked a petitioner whether it is the court's job. On Monday. A bench of Justices S K Kaul and Abhay S Oka asked the petitioner what fundamental right was being affected, PTI reported.
"Is this the job of the court? Why do you file such petitions where we are compelled to impose costs? Which fundamental right is violated? Should we throw law to the winds because you come to court?" the bench said.
According to what the petitioner submitted before the court, cow protection is very important. But the bench warned the petitioner that the court would impose costs if the plea was not withdrawn. The petitioner withdrew the plea, and the matter was dismissed.
The plea was filed by a Non-Government Organization (NGO), Govansh Sewa Sadan and others, demanding the court to declare cow as a national animal.
