SC dismisses constable-exam-paper-leak accused's bail plea

New Delhi: Regarding the case of a paper leak of the Himachal Pradesh Police Constable Examination, the Supreme Court rejected the anticipatory bail filed by the alleged chief conspirator Anil Bhaskar, IANS reported.

Earlier, the Himachal Pradesh High Court also had dismissed Bhaskar's bail application, accepting the prosecution's argument that he was the main conspirator as well as he was evading arrest, and non-bailable warrants were issued against him.

The Supreme Court bench of Justices BR Gavai and PS Narasimha said, "We are not inclined to entertain the present petition. The Special Leave Petition is dismissed. Pending application(s), if any, shall stand disposed of accordingly."

For Bhaskar, advocate Namit Saxena argued that no evidence was alive to link him with the crime other than the testimonies of a father and son. Saxena said that those testimonies are planted with ulterior motives. The lawyer argued that Bhaskar, who runs Bhaskar Academy for coaching competitive examinations at Haryana's Rohtak, has been falsely implicated in the case.

Bhaskar's plea said, "That a notice for joining investigation was sent to the petitioner as against the above stated FIR and the petitioner immediately joined the enquiry, however, it has been alleged by the respondent that the petitioner was absconding, and petitioner was untraceable which is false."

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur scrapped the written exam, held on March this year, after the question paper was found leaked, and the exam got rescheduled in July this year.

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) in the state handles the probe into the case, and a five-member special investigation team (SIT) headed by Deputy Inspector General of Police Madhu Sudan has been formed.
