Sangh Parivar targets Shah Rukh Khan when it should be Jay Shah, BCCI
text_fieldsNew Delhi: When it was BCCI and ICC chief Jay Shah who were responsible for including Bangladesh players in IPL auction, Sangh Parivar targets Kolkata Knight Riders franchise owner Shah Rukh Khan for buying Mustafizur Rahman via auction.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has asked the team to release Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 9.20 crore in the IPL auction, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia informed.
Bilateral relations between the two countries deteriorated after the student and youth protests in Bangladesh turned into anti-India protests. The incidents that took place two weeks ago, including the killing of an Indian-origin man in Bangladesh, further exacerbated the problems. This led to protests in India against the inclusion of the Bangladeshi player. After the BJP and Shiv Sena rose with protests, the BCCI intervened and allowed KKR to include a replacement in the team, excluding Mustafizur Rahman.
The Sangh Parivar has launched an attack on Shah Rukh Khan for including Mustafizur Rahman in the team. BJP leader and former UP MLA Sangeet Som's remarks, which called Shah Rukh a traitor, also became controversial. However, the Congress had come out the other day with a stand that the BCCI and ICC chief Jay Shah, who included Bangladesh players in the IPL auction despite the strained bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh, should answer.
The son of the Home Minister, Jay Shah, should answer for the controversy and how the Bangladesh players were included in the auction list, Congress leader Supriya Srinath said. As the head of the ICC, all the important decisions in cricket are taken by Jay Shah, the leader added.
Karnataka Minister and Congress leader Priyank Kharge also lashed out. He asked why BJP leaders, instead of blaming the IPL franchises, are not questioning the BCCI for including Bangladeshi players in the auction pool. The BCCI has also been silent on the auction controversy that has been going on for the past few days. KKR bought Mustafizur Rahman, competing with the Chennai Super Kings at the auctions.
Meanwhile, the BCCI secretary has not responded regarding India's tour of Bangladesh in September this year.
