Russia detains ISIS bomber, Plan was to attack Indian leader
text_fieldsMoscow: Russian security detained an ISIS terrorist who was planning to attack an Indian politician over the Prophet remark.
In a video released by the Federal Security Service of Russia, the bomber was heard admitting that he was supposed to take revenge in India "for insulting the Prophet." His target was "one of the representatives of the ruling circles of India."
IS recruited the suicide bomber in Turkey.
He was recruited by one of the Islamic State's ringleaders as a suicide bomber sometime between April and June 2022, reported state-owned TASS news agency. The terrorist's "ideological indoctrination was conducted remotely via Telegram messenger accounts and during personal meetings in Istanbul with an IS representative, said FSB.
According to the Russian security forces' report, the terrorist swore allegiance to IS Chief. After undergoing training, he was instructed to leave for Russia, acquire the necessary documents, and fly to India. He was expecting to receive tools to carry out the attack after arriving in India.
The statement about the Prophet made by the spokesperson of the ruling BJP party had strained India's relationship with several Muslim countries including Arab nations. The government condemned the remarks and reaffirmed the diplomatic ties.
Rejecting the claims that India's ties with Gulf nations are in trouble, Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs V Muraleedharan said: "No. India shares historic and friendly relations with Arab countries which have strengthened significantly in the past few years in different domains including political, trade and investment, defence, security, science and technology, culture and people-to-people ties."
