Saharanpur: Members of the right-wing group Hindu Raksha Dal were reported to have spray-painted a message stating that the road was not meant for Muslims on a wall-like structure along a national highway near the border of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand late on February 26.
The incident was initially believed to have occurred in Ghaziabad district, but was later confirmed to have taken place on the Delhi–Dehradun highway near Saharanpur district.
A video of the incident that circulated widely online was said to show two women spray-painting messages in Hindi and English with the same exclusionary content, after which members of the group were heard raising slogans while another person recorded the act, Siasat Daily reported.
The clip, which lasted 57 seconds, spread widely on X, with several users describing it as inflammatory and capable of provoking communal tension.
An official from the Saharanpur traffic police, Shailendra Kumar Srivastava, told Siasat.com that a case had been registered based on the video and that the graffiti had since been removed. He also said that investigations were ongoing to identify and take action against those involved.
He further stated that additional police personnel had been deployed in the area for monitoring, and that patrols were being conducted in the sensitive stretch to maintain law and order.
