Right-wing activist TG Mohandas taken into custody over "women like rape" remark

Right-wing political commentator TG Mohandas was taken into custody from his residence in Mattancherry on Sunday over remarks he made in a YouTube video about a students' protest in Delhi over the NEET paper leak, police said.
In the video, Mohandas said the Delhi students' protest "could lead to incidents of gang rape". He also claimed that protesters would not complain because they "like rape" and that there were girls who "enjoy being raped".
A team from the Thiruvananthapuram Cyber Police Station, which is investigating the case, reached Mohandas' residence in Koovappadam near Mattancherry on Sunday evening along with personnel from the local police station. Police said Mohandas was present when the team arrived.
The investigators collected information about his YouTube account and digital devices used to create and upload the video. Police sources said he would be questioned in detail as part of the investigation.
The case was registered following a complaint alleging that videos uploaded on Mohandas' YouTube channel, "Pathrika", were intended to disturb public peace and create fear and unrest among the public.
Mohandas also said that if he were in charge, he would impose a curfew and order the protesters to disperse. He said that if they refused, authorities should "open fire".
He further claimed that although some protesters could be killed or permanently injured, the situation could be brought under control within hours and the bodies moved to hospitals.
The cyber police are investigating the allegations and are examining the digital material connected to the video.
