The Kerala Police is on high alert after intelligence reports hinted at possible clashes between RSS and SDPI workers in Kannur.

A recent bomb explosion in front of the residence of an RSS worker Sudeesh has provoked the situation in the volatile region. Police think the blast may have been the retaliation to a bomb hurled at the office of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) a few weeks ago. The state intelligence has reported a possible escalation of violence in the region.

Kannur has witnessed several brutal political murders over the years. Most clashes have been between RSS and CPI-M. Lately, several incidents between RSS and SDPI have been reported.

RSS Kannur district leader, Ashwini Kumar was brutally killed in a moving bus by the SDPI cadres in 2005. This was alleged to be in retaliation to the murder of Mohammed, a local SDPI worker. In 2018, Shyamprasad, ABVP leader and RSS shakha shikshak, was killed by SDPI workers. RSS allegedly retaliated with the murder of Salahuddin, an SDPI worker in 2020.

Considering the history, the police are taking the intelligence reports seriously as hurling bombs at party offices and residences of politicians will lead to major clashes.
