Hyderabad: Two workers were killed and several others sustained serious injuries after a reactor exploded and sparked a fire at a pharmaceutical factory in Telangana’s Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district late on Friday.

The accident occurred at Hazelo Lab Private Limited near Dothigudem in Pochampally mandal, police said. The blast reportedly took place when employees were changing shifts.

Police, fire personnel and rescue teams rushed to the unit after receiving information about the explosion. Firefighters later brought the flames under control.

Several workers were pulled out of the premises and admitted to nearby hospitals. Medical officials declared two employees dead, while others are undergoing treatment for serious injuries.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. The exact cause of the reactor explosion has not yet been established.

In another industrial mishap, three engineers were killed in a blast at a sponge-iron factory in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district on Friday night.

The explosion occurred at the power plant section of Maa Chhinnamastika Cement and Ispat Private Limited at Hehal under Patratu block. A fire broke out during production activity, triggering panic among workers on the night shift.

Police and fire officials carried out rescue operations after reaching the factory. Three engineers were found trapped inside the unit and died, while another person was injured and shifted to hospital.

Factory management has indicated that overheating at the plant may have caused the blast. An investigation is under way to determine the exact circumstances behind the incident.
