Ranveer Singh-starrer Jayeshbhai Jordaar sued for sex-determination scene
text_fieldsA scene in the trailer of Ranveer Singh-starrer film 'Jayeshbhai Jordaar' has taken the movie to court. A plea was moved to Delhi High Court for showing the use of ultrasound technology for prenatal sex determination.
The petitioner argues that the scene advertises the use of ultrasound techniques to figure out the sex of the unborn child. The petitioner, an NGO called Youth Against Crime said the "ultrasound clinic scene where the technology of ultrasound for sex selection is being advertised openly without censor and as per section 3, 3A, 3B, 4, 6 & 22 of the PC & PNDT Act, same is not allowed"
The PIL was listed before the division bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Navin Chawla.
The film is promoting the agenda 'save girl child' and the entire trailer is against female foeticide. Ranveer Singh plays a father who is determined to save his second girl child from his father who does not want another girl born in the family. Most of the trailer shows the titular character on the run with his wife and daughter. The village is also seen chasing the family to ensure the girl child is not born.
On the other hand, the CBFC did not ask for any cuts and gave the film a clean U/A certificate. The satire is directed by debutant Divyang Thakkar and will hit the screens on May 13.
