Rajasthan Uni: Protesting, students brew tea outside VC’s office
text_fieldsJaipur: Students at the University of Rajasthan have launched an unusual and intensifying protest against the Vice Chancellor, accusing the administration of continuously ignoring their demands.
In a dramatic demonstration outside the VC’s office, students set up makeshift stoves, brewed tea and banged utensils, turning the protest into a symbolic show of dissent. Led by student leader Shubham Rewad, the agitation marks the latest in a series of unconventional protests on campus. In recent days, students have staged extreme demonstrations, including burying themselves underground and sitting in water, to draw attention to their grievances.
The protesters have raised multiple concerns, including alleged irregularities in examination results, the demand to roll back increased revaluation fees and the need to improve basic campus infrastructure. The “tea protest” was accompanied by a broader demonstration pressing these demands, reflecting mounting frustration among students.
Tensions have escalated further following police action against earlier protests. Authorities reportedly resorted to baton charges and detained several students, fuelling anger on campus. The unrest also follows controversy over an event organised by a group linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, which triggered strong opposition from student bodies, including the National Students' Union of India.
Students have accused the university administration of attempting to suppress dissent using police force while avoiding engagement with their issues. The protest outside the VC’s office, where tea was distributed, has gained significant traction on social media.
With no immediate resolution in sight, the students have vowed to continue their agitation until their demands are addressed, signalling a deepening standoff between the administration and the student community.
