Rajasthan teacher fired for celebrating Pakistan's win against India in T20 World Cup
text_fieldsJaipur: A school teacher of a renowned private school in Rajasthan's Udaipur was dismissed from service after she uploaded her whatsApp status celebrating the victory of Pakistan against India in the recent ICC T20 tournament.
On October 25, a WhatsApp post of a teacher identified as Nafisa Atari, a teacher of Neerja Modi School, Udaipur, Rajasthan, started to get viral on social media platforms. In the post, Atari had shared an image of Pakistani players with the text, "Jeet gaye, we won". Nafisa was heavily criticized for the post. The netizens questioned what she might be teaching in her class if she was openly supporting Pakistan.
When she was asked if she supported Pakistan, the teacher replied by saying 'yes'. When contacted, Attari said that it was a joke and that she and her family and friends had divided the teams between them.
"Actually we were watching the match and we had divided the teams among us and we were supporting our individual teams. This does not mean that I was supporting Pakistan," she said in a statement.
In a letter, the school said - "Neerja Modi School teacher has been dismissed with immediate effect as per the meeting of Sojatia Charitable Trust."
The school is being run by Sojatia Charitable School.
The number of the concerned school officer was switched off when contacted.
