Jaipur: Rajasthan Cabinet Minister Kirodi Lal Meena resigned on Wednesday taking the responsibility of the BJP’s failure in the Dausa Lok Sabha seat, The Indian Express reported.

Meena declared the decision in a statement to the news channels months after announcing plans to quit the post in the event of the party losing the constituency in the Lok Sabha polls.

Stepping down as agriculture minister, he also said he had not attended the Chief Minister Bhajan Lal’s Cabinet meeting as he had ‘no moral right’.

Amid speculations whether his decision has to do with some frustrations, it is reported the resignation has not been accepted yet.

Responding to speculations, Meena reportedly said: “There is no reason for me to be angry… I had also met the CM and very respectfully, he told me that ‘no, your resignation will not be accepted’. But I told the CM that since I had spoken amidst the people and announced that I will resign if we don’t win this seat, I had to resign. It is natural that I cannot sit in a government bungalow, government car or office.”

Congress’s Murari Lal Meena defeated BJP’s Kanhaiya Lal Meena in the Dausa Lok Sabha seat by a margin of over 2.3 lakh votes.
