Hyderabad: Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh alleged that Hyderabad Police booked him due to pressure from certain quarters.
His remarks came days after Mehdipatnam Police registered an FIR against him following a complaint by BRS leader and HYC founder Salman Khan over an interview clip in which Singh was accused of making objectionable remarks about Muslim women.
Singh was booked under Section 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with acts promoting enmity, hatred or disharmony between different groups, Siasat Daily reported.
In a fresh video, Raja Singh claimed that his remarks were aimed at Muslims in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and questioned why people in India were taking offence.
He further alleged that those upset by his comments should explain why they were reacting to statements directed at individuals abroad, whom he accused of threatening him over the phone.
The MLA also criticised the Hyderabad Police, questioning whether any verification or inquiry had been conducted before the FIR was registered.
He argued that the video in question was old and claimed that several of his videos from four or five years ago are frequently re-uploaded on YouTube. Singh further questioned whether action would also be taken against those who repost such content online.
