New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday extended support to the family of Siddique Kappan and added that the journalist arrested by the UP police deserves full protection and medical support.

"I extend my support to the family of Siddique Kappan. He deserves full protection and medical support. RSS-BJP show their lack of courage by shooting the messenger! Stop the crime, not the reportage," he wrote on Facebook while sharing the statement by the Editors' Guild of India in support of Kappan.

Recently, UDF MPs from Kerala had come to the fore demanding that Kappan be shifted to AIIMS Delhi. 11 MPs wrote to the Supreme Court Chief Justice NV Ramana. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan had also written to the UP CM Yogi Adityanath demanding that Kappan be given quality medical treatment.

Kappan's wife Raihanath had informed of the serious health conditions of Kappan and that he was kept chained to the bed in a hospital in Mathura. A massive social media campaign demanding the release of Kappan also followed on Sunday.
