Rahul Gandhi attacks PM Modi for calling Adani issue ‘personal matter’ in US
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi called out PM Modi for what he said ‘maintaining silence’ over US prosecutors’ charges against businessman Gautam Adani.
The Congress leader’s remarks came after PM Modi termed the controversial ‘Gautam Adani case’ a ‘personal matter’ during his interaction with US media.
Taking to platform X, Rahul Gandhi said that PM Modi kept silence when questions regarding Adani case were put to him in India but termed the case ‘a personal matter’ in the US.
Rahul Gandhi said: ‘If you ask questions in the country, there is silence. If you ask abroad, it is a personal matter! Even in America, Modi Ji covered up Adani Ji’s corruption!’
The senior Congress MP added: ‘When filling a friend’s pocket is “nation building” for Modiji, then taking bribes and looting the nation’s wealth becomes a ‘personal matter’.’
PM Modi made the remarks at a joint press conference with US President Donald Trump during his visit to the US.
PM Modi was asked if ‘ Gautam Adani case’ was discussed during his meeting with President Trump.
Responding to question, PM Modi said: ‘Firstly, India is a democratic country, and our culture and our philosophy means that the entire world is a family. Every Indian is my own family member. And when it comes to such personal matters, two leaders of two countries will not get together on that topic and discuss anything on an individual matter.’
On November 21, US authorities accused Gautam Adani and associates of paying bribes over $250 million to Indian government officials to secure solar energy contracts.
Adani Group founder Gautam Adani earlier termed the allegations ‘baseless’, adding that the group would seek ‘all possible legal recourse’ alongside claiming that the Conglomerate was ‘committed to world class regulatory compliance,’ according to The Hindu.
