Rahul Dravid says he will not be attending BJP event, Calls report "incorrect"
text_fieldsIndian cricket team coach and former player Rahul Dravid said the reports claiming he would be participating in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha's National Working Committee session are "incorrect".
BJP Dharamsala MLA Vishal Nehria claimed Dravid will be at the event. He said the former national player's presence will send a message to the youth to excel in different fields.
"Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid will also participate in this. Owing to his success, a message will be given among the youth that we can move forward not only in politics but also in other fields," said the MLA. Dravid is known for being one of the finest players in ODI and test cricket.
Dravid had succeeded Ravi Shastri as India's head coach after the conclusion of the ICC World T20 in 2021. He told ANI that a section of the media has reported that I will attend a meeting in Himachal Pradesh from May 12-15. "I wish to clarify that the said report is incorrect".
The cricket icon has been a private person and has not attended any public activities other than those related to cricket. He also refrains from sharing opinions on matters unrelated to his role in the team.
The BCCI also denied the rumours about Dravid's participation at the BJP function. The BCCI media manager said the coach is currently in Bengaluru and recently hosted a meeting at the NCA with players from the North Eastern States.
The national leadership of the BJP and the leadership of Himachal Pradesh will be involved in the Yuva Morcha. BJP National President JP Nadda, National Organization Minister, and Union Minister will also attend the session. Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections are to be held this year.
In the 2017 Assembly Election, BJP won 44 seats in Himachal Pradesh. Congress got 21 and others got three seats of a total of 68 Assembly seats.
