Race car driver in Chennai dies after losing control, probe started

Chennai: A viral footage showed a speeding race car swerving and tumbling over, before killing the driver here.

The professional car racer who died on Sunday is identified as 57-year-old Kumar from Teynampet, India Today reported.

Kumar was participating a race event in Irungattukottai on the outskirts of Chennai city on Sunday.

One of the cameras on the circuit captured the horrifying accident that occurred after Kumar lost control of the car.

Kumar, who ran a hotel near Thandalam, was an avid professional race car driver with the track record of winning several races.

Halfway through the 36km IJTC car race Kumar lost control of his car crashing into barriers and tumbled over.

Kumar was rushed to a private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Sriperumbudur Police took Kumar’s body for autopsy alongside initiating an investigation into the crash.
