New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and the member of G-23, a group of party veterans, Kapil Sibal faced the ire of party workers who were infuriated by the group's questioning of its leadership. The protestors held a demonstration outside Kabil's home in Delhi and damaged a car.

Kabil and other members of the G-23 demanded the party leadership to bring a major overhaul in the party structure in the wake of unending commotion within the party.

Responding to the attack on his colleague's home, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram said he felt hurt and helpless. Other members of the group also called out the attack terming it orchestrated hooliganism.

Senior leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Vivek Tankha and Raj Babbar were among those who rallied behind Sibal, with Sharma asking Sonia Gandhi to take strong action against those involved.

Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said the attack was the result of Kapil's expressing his views which were not palatable to the party leadership, reminding the workers that the trend of party seniors being sidelined will create an adverse impact on the party.

Terming the senior Congressmen as "thinkers", who were important to the future of the party, the former Chief Minister in a statement said the younger leadership should be promoted to implement the plans, which the senior leaders are best equipped to formulate.
