Quack arrested in Tamil Nadu after a 6-year-old boy who she treated died
text_fieldsRajapalayam: Police arrested an unqualified medical practitioner in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar district after a six-year-old boy, who received an injection for fever, died.
On November 4, Kavi Devanathan was taken by his father Maheswaran to a clinic after he had fallen ill.
Catherine who ran the clinic administered an injection on him and back home, the boy developed swelling on his leg and complained of severe pain.
Kavi Devanathan was again taken to a private hospital where the doctor gave him a paracetamol injection.
On their way back, the boy collapsed and Maheshwaran rushed him to the Rajapalayam Government hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The health department officials and police started probing the case eventually ending up at Catherine's clinic.
Official were shocked to find Catherine was not a qualified medical practitioner and recovered stocks of medicines and injections from the clinic alongside arresting her.
Medical probe revealed that the boy developed complications after the area where Catherine injected on the boy became septic. Further investigations are underway.
