Chandigarh: The Punjab government has waived outstanding electricity bills of all domestic category consumers until December 31, 2021, the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) issued notification. The announcement is the fulfilment of another promise Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan made before the state's people, IANS reported.

Power Minister Harbhajan Singh said that bills till December 31, 2021, will be waived for those who have not paid their dues till June 30, 2022.

Further, he said that the disconnected power connections, which are not possible to restore, will be reissued by the PSPCL if applicants make requests. The charges for new domestic electricity connections, which the consumers are entitled to pay, will be reimbursed by the state government to the PSPCL, the minister said.

But, all consumers who are not included in the domestic category, such as government hospitals, dispensaries, places of worship, government sports institutes, military rest houses, government-aided educational institutes and attached hostels, etc., will not be covered by the amnesty scheme.

The Aam Aadmi Party government in the state has been serving 300 units of free electricity for all eligible households there every month.
