Property sale to Muslim enrages residents in UP's Moradabad, threaten exodus
text_fieldsMoradabad: A property sale in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad enraged the residents in the area who threatened an exodus from the neighbourhood, putting up 'house for sale' posters as the properties have reportedly been sold to Muslims, The Indian Expert reported.
Residents in Shiv Mandir Colony in the city's Lajpat Nagar area came out openly against the sale of two properties to Muslims, saying the peaceful atmosphere of the area would be disturbed. Every door is said to have borne the poster in the area where the middle-class families are said to have been living.
The district administration who conducted a probe into the matter has other versions to add to the story that some residents of the area eyed on the said properties who gave communal colour to the incidents when they had known their desired properties were sold to Muslims.
The residents of the area are of the opinion that since they have been living in the area for years in mutual understanding, with their own festivals and cultures where an outsider's forceful entry with the intention to disturb the atmosphere could not be tolerated.
District Magistrate Shailendra Kumar Singh, who visited the area, said that they have tried to convince the residents that every citizen has the right to sell his properties to anyone and no one can stop it.
The Police who intervened in the matter said that the residents do not want to sell any properties there to outsiders without their consent. The Police also reminded the residents of the freedom of people to live anywhere.
The Police, in a statement, also warned legal action against those who disturb communal harmony over this issue through social media.
