Prithviraj's story was with me for 18 years, says the director

Filmmaker and historian Chandraprakash Dwivedi said the story of his film 'Prithviraj' has been on his mind for the past 18 years and he has checked every fact.

He added that Prithviraj is his dream project. "It is a script I nurtured for a long time because of the extensive research it needed." The filmmaker claimed to have spent about six months on the final research phase. "Every single fact was checked multiple times''.

Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan is one of the most popular and legendary kings of India. Being from the Chahamana (Chauhan) dynasty who ruled Sapadalaksha, he achieved military success against several neghbouring countries. He is known for unifying several Rajput clans and defeating the army of Shihabuddin Ghor.

The historical action drama is based on Prithviraj Raso, a Braj Bhasha epic poem about the life of Prithviraj Chauhan.

Director Dwivedi said that he read many books on the legendary king's life to ensure that we are doing justice in the film. "I am deeply satisfied as a writer and filmmaker that I took this time before I could realise my dream". He added that there is no other king like Prithviraj in our history and I hope our film is a fitting tribute to his valour.

Akshay Kumar will be seen playing the warrior king and Miss Universe Manushi Chillar will make her Bollywood debut. The film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Sood, Ashutosh Rana, Sakshi Tanwar, Manav Vij, and Lalit Tiwari.
