New Delhi: Police informed that a temple priest, who had gone missing for the past few days in Bihar, was found dead with eyes gouged out and genitals chopped off, India Today reported.

Also, the incident has incited tension, and clashes followed between locals and police. Two officials suffered minor injuries.

The priest, identified as Manoj Kumar, who did service at a Shiva temple in Danapur village of Gopalganj district, was missing for the past six days. His brother Ashok Kumar Shah is a BJP leader.

According to police, he disappeared on his way to the temple, and despite searches, they couldn’t find him. He was found in bushes of the village on Saturday.

Following the discovery of Kumar’s body, locals accused police of negligence. Then clashes erupted after locals threw stones at police personnel and set a police vehicle on fire.

Police were forced to fire multiple rounds into the air to bring peace, and Gopalganj Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Pranjal reached the spot to pacify the locals later.

Manoj Kumar’s other brother, Suresh Shah, said that he might have gone somewhere and would come back soon. Suresh was at the temple when Manoj disappeared. He said that he or his family had no idea about the motive behind the murder.

Police meanwhile informed that required forces have been deployed in the area and the situation in the village is under control.

Officer Pranjal added that the highway had been cleared. An FIR will be registered in the murder case soon.
