Patna: When the first phase of the Bihar Assembly election is all set to happen on Wednesday, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has thrown in severe criticisms against BJP government for the price hike of vegetables by holding up an onion garland.

"The common man is triumphant by breaking back inflation, corruption, unemployment. Business is at a standstill. Farmers, labourers, youth and businessmen are having to eat food. Small businessmen have been killed by the BJP government. As inflation rose, these people used to roam around wearing onion garlands, now we are handing them this", he tweeted in Hindi. He also posted two photos featuring him and another RJD leader holding up onion garlands.

Over the past few weeks, onion prices have shot up sharply in many parts of the world, with prices hitting 90 and 100 per kg, following damage to the standing Kharif crop in growing areas due to heavy rainfall and hoarding.

"Those who were speaking about onion when it touched 50 to 60 per kg are now silent when it has crossed 80 per kg. Farmers are being destroyed, youth is unemployed. Bihar is poor and people are migrating for education, jobs and medical help. Starvation is on the rise." Yadav spoke to media.

The campaigning for Phase 1 of Bihar elections is set to conclude today ahead of the voting in three phases from 28 Oct to 7 Nov.

Just days before the polling for, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Monday, 26 October, held up a garland of onions in a gesture to ridicule the BJP-led central government

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav slammed BJP over the price hike in vegetables by holding a garland of onion for the government on Monday. Just a day to go before the first phase of elections in Bihar, the RJD candidate has used the rise in onion prices as a campaign weapon.
