President appoints new judges at Calcutta and Bombay high courts

President appoints new judges at Calcutta and Bombay high courts

Four new judges were appointed for the Calcutta and Bombay high courts on Monday by President Ram Nath Kovind, while one additional judge from a second high court was given an additional year of service.

Aniruddha Roy, the Additional Judge at the Calcutta High Court, and Amit Bhalchandra Borkar, Shrikant Dattatray Kulkarni, the Additional Judge at the Bombay High Court, have all been elevated as full judges. Meanwhile, Abhay Ahuja, the Additional Judge at the Bombay High Court, has received a one-year extension with effect from March 4, 2022.

A statement from the Law and Justice Ministry states that "In exercise of the power conferred by clause (l) of Article 217 and clause (l) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, has appointed the following as judges/additional judges of the following High Courts, with effect from the date they assume office."
