Prayagraj: Hours after Prayagraj administration pulled down Mohammad Javed's house, documents showed that the house was owned by his wife Parveen Fatima, according to The Indian Express.

The report cited a receipt of water bill issued by Jal Kal Vibhag dated February 8 in the name of Parveen Fatima.

Another certificate issued on January 28 by Prayagraj Nagar Nigam, carrying the House No. No. 39C/2A/1, was also in her name.

The house was torn down on Sunday after serving a day's notice, alleging the construction violated provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act, 1973.

However, the notice that was served to Mohammad Javed carried the house number in the name of Parveen Fatima.

Police arrested Javed on charges of instigating violent protests over remarks by Nupur Sharma on Prophet Muhammad.

The couple' daughter Sumaiya Fatima told The Indian Express that Prayagraj Development Authority issued the notice to her father Mohammad Javed but demolished her mother's residence.

The house was previously owned by Parveen Fatima's father Kaleemuddin Siddiqui who gifted it to Sumaiya's mother two decades ago.

The 19-year-old said that no government agency ever told the family the house was illegally built. Over time they added two more floors to the house and house tax, water tax, electricity connection were in the name of Parveen Fatima.

Advocate KK Roy representing Javed's family told the Indian Express that as per Muslim law the wife's property does not belong to the husband.

A senior official told The Indian Express that the notice was issued to the person who had done construction on the land, and it had nothing to do with the ownership of the land.

He further added on the condition of anonymity that the house demolished had a stone plaque on the boundary wall that said "Javed M". Plus, the notice was issued to Javed after the locals confirmed the house was owned by Mohammad Javed.

The house was demolished in the presence of District Magistrate Khatri and SSP Ajay Kumar; both the officials, according to the report, were not available to comment.
