Potential Pakistan provocation: Security tightened in Mumbai, Delhi

New Delhi: Security has been heightened across several major cities in India following warnings from central intelligence agencies that Pakistan may attempt provocative actions against the country. Acting on these inputs, the Union Home Ministry has directed authorities to strengthen security arrangements and increase surveillance, particularly in sensitive regions and major urban centres.

Enhanced security measures have been implemented in key cities, including Jammu and Kashmir, Mumbai and Delhi. Authorities have intensified monitoring in public places, transport hubs and other sensitive locations as a precautionary step.

According to reports, intelligence agencies believe Pakistan may be attempting to divert international attention from ongoing tensions along the Afghan border and internal unrest in Balochistan. In this context, agencies assess that there could be attempts to trigger disturbances or instability in India.

The Home Ministry has also instructed security agencies to step up surveillance along the western border with Pakistan. Anti-terror units and other security agencies have begun conducting inspections and security checks in several locations as part of the precautionary measures.

In Maharashtra, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) carried out extensive inspections in the Kurla and Govandi areas of Mumbai. Officials said the operations were part of routine preventive checks following the intelligence alert. However, no suspicious activities or materials have been found so far during these inspections.

Meanwhile, additional security forces are being deployed in various border areas of Jammu and Kashmir to strengthen border protection and maintain operational readiness. The Border Security Force (BSF) and the Indian Army have tightened surveillance along the international border to prevent possible infiltration attempts.

Authorities said the measures are precautionary in nature and aimed at ensuring public safety while maintaining vigilance against potential security threats.
