Political strategist Prashant Kishor has registered himself as a voter in Kolkata ahead of the crucial Bhabanipur bypoll. This election will see Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee contest to enter the state Assembly.

Sources said that he made the shift in view of apprehensions that the BJP might attempt to coerce the Election Commission to get him out of Kolkata amid the Assembly elections. The BJP could approach the Election Commission to complain and ask how Kishore continues to stay on as polling was spread across several phases even in individual districts.

Kishor was earlier a voter in his village in Bihar. He has been helping the Trinamool Congress to retain power in the recent Assembly Polls. He became a Kolkata South Lok Sabha constituency voter and voted there in April-May, reported NDTV.

He used to stay with Trinamool leader Abhishek Banerjee during Covid lockdown, and has provided his address as "care of". Kishor and his Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) backed TMC to win 213 out of 292 seats. The party has extended its contract with I-PAC to 2026.
