Gurgaon: The Gurgaon police have ruled out a communal angle in the assault on a Kashmiri youth by a group of men three days after the incident.

The police claimed that the preliminary investigation could not provide any communal element behind the attack as the assailants and the victim have been found to be working at the same office.

According to the police, Tariq Ahmad Bhat (24), who works as a financial advisor for a fintech company, Policybazaar, in Gurgaon, was attacked by a group of men on Thursday near the office. An FIR has been filed soon after the incident and the attack is believed to have been taken place following recent fallout between them.

The Indian Express quoted Bhat as saying that the attackers grabbed hold of him, beaten and tried to stab him with a sharp object. He could not identify the assailants as they were masked and it was dark.

The police said that the incident came to their notice through Twitter and they have lodged an FIR under IPC sections 323 (voluntary causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention).

Tariq, who hails from Chinjamula of Kupwara district in Kashmir, said he had come to Gurgaon nearly three years ago to work for an airline as a customer service executive.
