New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday will open the 2.3 km-long cable-stayed bridge ‘ Sudarshan Setu’ in Gujarat’s Dwarka, NDTV reported.

What is dubbed as India’s longest bridge of its kind, Sudarshan Setu connects Okha and Beyt Dwarka island serving a link between old and new Dwarka.

Beyt Dwarka, an island near Okha port, sits nearly 30 km from Dwarka town, where the famous Dwarkadhish temple of Lord Krishna is situated.

Constructed at the cost of ₹ 979 crore, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the bridge in October 2017.

‘The four-lane 27.20 metre wide bridge has 2.50 metre wide footpaths on each side,’ NDTV reported citing an official release.

Sudarshan Setu, previously known as ‘ Signature Bridge’, has footpath adorned with verses from Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna.

Meanwhile, it is reported that PM Modi will offer prayers at Dwarkadhish temple before addressing a large gathering nearby.

Alongside in Rajkot, the Prime Minister will open the state’s first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Besides the one in Rajkot, PM Modi will also virtually open four other AIIMS in Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal all built at the cost of ₹ 6,300 crore.
