PM Modi calls parliament security breach "very serious, opposition demands explanation

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the recent breach of security at the Parliament, emphasising its seriousness and the necessity for a thorough investigation into the incident.
He underscored the significance of determining the individuals responsible and understanding their motives behind the breach.
Expressing concern over the incident, PM Modi emphasised the need for a detailed inquiry.
He highlighted that the Lok Sabha Speaker is taking appropriate measures, and investigative agencies are actively looking into the matter. Modi stressed the importance of understanding the motives of the intruders and identifying the groups involved, emphasising the necessity of an exhaustive investigation.
The breach, which occurred last week, witnessed intruders entering the Lok Sabha chamber, deploying coloured smoke canisters, and staging a protest. They cited issues such as the Manipur violence, unemployment, and farmers' problems as the reasons behind their actions. Six individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident, with the Delhi Police invoking the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against the trespassers.
In response to the breach, the Opposition criticised the government's handling of the security breach, demanding a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah. However, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla clarified that the security within the Lok Sabha falls under the secretariat's jurisdiction, dismissing the need for central government intervention.
Congress leaders expressed concern over the breach, urging for the Home Minister's statement in Parliament. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge highlighted the absence of a statement from the Home Minister within Parliament, calling it detrimental to democracy.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi attributed the breach to the government's policies, linking it to widespread unemployment across the country.
In response, the BJP countered Rahul Gandhi's claims, stating that unemployment had decreased significantly in the past six years. BJP IT in-charge Amit Malviya pointed out alleged connections of those involved in the breach with Congress, TMC, and CPI(M), urging clarification from their leaders.
