Senior Kerala politician P C George who was arrested today morning for allegedly making controversial remarks against the Muslim community was granted bail. His arrest was formally recorded.

He was arrested for saying he doesn't want the support or vote of radical groups, of any religion, who do not love the country. The former Congress leader questioned how this statement makes him against any religion.

An FIR against Mr George was registered on Saturday and officers of the Thiruvananthapuram Fort police station took him into custody on Sunday based on the directions of the state police chief Anil Kant. He was brought to Thiruvananthapuram via road from his residence at Kottayam in his personal vehicle.

At the Thiruvananthapuram AR Camp, the arrest was formally recorded for the offence of promoting enmity between different religious groups under section 153A of the IPC.

He was produced before a duty magistrate soon after reaching the capital city. PC George told the media that the magistrate asked him not to interfere with the investigation and influence witnesses. He was also warned not to make any speech. The senior politician alleged that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan orchestrated his arrest as a Ramazan present to the radical Muslim groups.

PC George had earlier received backlash for saying non-Muslims in Kerala should avoid going to restaurants run by the Muslims and avoid supporting businesses run by Muslims.

While speaking at a programme organised as part of the ongoing Ananthapuri Hindu Maha Sammelan in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday, he had alleged that tea laced with drops causing impotence was sold in Muslim-run restaurants. He also said that it is a conspiracy to make people infertile and seize control of the country.
