Parliament set to deliberate on 21 Bills in winter session

New Delhi: Ahead of the Winter Session set to commence on Monday, an all-party meeting was convened, coinciding with the release of a comprehensive list of 21 bills, including two financial bills, scheduled for discussion and consideration during the parliamentary proceedings.

"We are bringing in 19 Bills and two are financial items. There are a total of 21 items. The three bills are from the Home Ministry. There is a bill on Central University, constitutional order," said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi regarding the agenda for the forthcoming session.

The roster unveiled during the all-party meeting showcased a diverse array of bills, encompassing critical legislations such as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and the Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, alongside prominent ones like the Repealing and Amending Bill, the Advocates (Amendment) Bill, and the Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi affirmed the schedule, noting that the Winter Session will span from December 4 to December 22, comprising 15 sittings over a 19-day period. "There will be 15 sittings in a period of 19 days," he said, further elaborating on the outcomes of the all-party meeting chaired by Rajnath Singh, where suggestions from 30 leaders representing 23 parties were received.

Key bills earmarked for discussion include amendments pertinent to Jammu and Kashmir, such as the Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Castes Order (Amendment) Bill and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill. Additionally, bills like the Post Office Bill and The Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Bill are poised for deliberation.

The parliamentary session's financial agenda involves the Presentation, Discussion, and Voting on the First Batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants for the year 2023-24, coupled with discussions around Demands for Excess Grants for the year 2020-21, entailing their respective Appropriation Bills.

Further bills like the Boilers Bill, Provisional Collection of Taxes Bill, Central Goods and Services Tax (Second Amendment) Bill, Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, National Capital Territory of Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Second (Amendment) Bill, and Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2023 are also slated for consideration during this session.
