'Pained, angry: PM Modi condemns Manipur 'women parading', Congress questions ' silence'

New Delhi: While addressing the Monsoon Session of Parliament on Thursday, PM Modi has taken time off to condemn the assault on two women in Manipur.
The video of the women being parade naked went viral shocking the nation with a large number of people calling for strict action.
PM Modi said he was filled with pain and anger at the incident, saying that is ‘shameful for any civilization’.
‘The country is shamed. I appeal to all chief ministers to strengthen laws to take stringent action against crime, especially against women. The incident might be from Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh or Manipur, the culprit should not go scot-free in any corner of the country,’ he said.
The prime minister assured the nation that culprits will not be spared.
PM Modi’s emotional reaction to the incident comes on the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament just as the opposition vehemently questioning his silence on Manipur violence.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge called out PM Modi saying that he had no time to visit Manipur but convened NDA’s meeting.
The Congress chief said that India would not forgive PM Modi’s silence on the violence, adding ‘If there is any conscience or an iota of shame left in your government, then you should speak about Manipur in the Parliament’.
The main culprit behind parading of the women was arrested after the two-month old video surfaced today.
Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh tweeted after the video surfaced ‘the Manipur Police swung to action and made the first arrest this morning. A thorough investigation is currently underway and we will ensure strict action is taken against all the perpetrators, including considering the possibility of capital punishment.’
